Dr. Nikos Christo Secchi Nicolás called on health professionals to join a congress committed to academic excellence, continuous medical education, and collaborative work, emphasizing that ECROD is designed to generate applicable knowledge and strengthen the comprehensive care of people living with chronic-degenerative diseases. Dr. Nikos Christo Secchi Nicolás is an internist, academic, and a leader in continuous medical education in Mexico. He currently serves as President of the International Congress on Chronic Degenerative Diseases (ECROD) 2026–2027, a forum that, since 2017, has consolidated itself as one of the main spaces for scientific updating in the face of the sustained advance of chronic-degenerative diseases, considered today one of the biggest public health challenges in Mexico and Latin America. In an exclusive conversation with LaSalud.mx, the doctor, trained at the General Hospital of Mexico, with a master's degree in Education and a doctorate in Hospital Administration and Public Health, has built a career that integrates active clinical practice, international multicenter research, and academic leadership. Since then, its uninterrupted realization and the backing of prestigious academic institutions, as well as the participation of national and international speakers, reflect the structural need for solid scientific spaces that respond to the current challenges of clinical practice. One of the distinctive features of ECROD, highlighted the specialist, is its multidisciplinary approach, particularly in medical-nutritional therapy. Among other leading figures in the clinical and academic field is Juan Carlos Anda. Finally, Dr. Secchi emphasized that the program integrates general practitioners, specialists, and subspecialists in areas such as Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Public Health, and Clinical Nutrition, recognizing that the complexity of chronic-degenerative diseases requires coordinated and evidence-based interventions. From an epidemiological perspective, Dr. Secchi, as a full professor at the Universidad Veracruzana, campus Minatitlán, and former president of the College of Internal Medicine of Mexico, pointed out that contemporary medical training requires integrating scientific evidence, epidemiological analysis, and a patient-centered approach, especially in the face of pathologies of high prevalence and complexity such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Assuming the presidency of ECROD for the period 2026–2027, he affirmed, represents a high-impact academic and professional commitment. Nikos Secchi highlighted that the multidisciplinary approach allows for improving prevention, optimizing treatments, and moving towards more effective and patient-centered care. In this context, the congress is positioned as a strategic space to articulate clinical knowledge, updated scientific evidence, and continuous training, aimed at those who attend to these ailments daily. The International Congress on Chronic Degenerative Diseases (ECROD) emerged in 2017 with the objective of establishing a formal and permanent forum for continuous medical education focused on this group of diseases, which place Mexico among the world leaders in prevalence. Nikos Secchi Nicolás explained that his vision of medicine arises from the convergence of clinical care, university teaching, and research. This approach, he maintained, is especially relevant in Latin American contexts, where the burden of disease and the structural limitations of health systems demand integral and sustainable solutions. Ahead of ECROD 2026, to be held on September 30, and October 1 and 2, 2026, he announced that the scientific program will address the most recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and other metabolic disorders. Chronic-degenerative diseases not only condition the quality of life for millions of people but also increasingly pressure health systems. It will include analyses of new therapies, such as triple-action mechanism drugs, combined therapy strategies, and their impact on cardiovascular health and metabolic contour, as well as the nutritional dimension of these ailments. The congress will have the backing of institutions such as the American College of Physicians, CONAMEGE (National Council of General Physicians / National Standardization Committee of General Medicine), the Inter-American Society of Hypertension, the College of Endocrinologists of Mexico, and various national medical societies. ECROD 2026–2027 as a scientific platform in the face of a 'silent epidemic'.
